According to its website, the FTC is the federal agency that works to protect consumers by preventing anticompetitive, deceptive, and unfair business practices. It also works to enhance informed consumer choice. The FTC also fights monopolies in business. The FTC offers tips for consumers and accepts complaints about topics that include:

  • Money & Credit
  • Jobs & Making Money
  • Homes & Mortgages
  • Privacy, Identity & Online Security
  • Health & Fitness

For example, the FTC offers tips on figuring out if a work-at-home job is a scam or not. The FTC also offers the national Do Not Call Registry where you can register your phone numbers to reduce the number of telemarketing calls you get.
